Where to buy travel plug adapter.
Greetings, fellow Vancouverites and Pre-Happy New Year!

Some friends and I will be heading over to South Korea for a getaway, and we're trying to buy Type C electric plug adapters so that we can plug in our electric devices into the plugs in South Korea.

Does anyone know where we can buy them?

    Reindeer Meat?
     Hey everyone :)
I was watching a Chef Abroad marathon on the Food Network, and after a particular Sweden/Arctic Circle themed episode, I'm curious about trying reindeer meat. Is there anywhere to get it already prepared in Vancouver?

    Thanks in advance!

    Mover Recommendation
I just thought that I would let you lovely people know about a great moving experience we had this last weekend.

We ended up using Can't Stop Moving (http://www.cantstopmovers.com/), and I have to say that it was a fantastic experience.

They were originally scheduled for 2:00, and ended up showing up early since they'd finished their previous job ahead of schedule (and called to make sure it was OK that they showed up early).

And talk about speedy! There were three of them, and they had our stuff moved out and into the new place in three hours.

In contrast, the people I used previously took four hours to move just my stuff from Bothell out to Seattle.

Nothing was damaged, they were careful carting stuff up stairs, and were polite as hell throughout the entire process.

    A++ would highly recommend!

In conjunction with this -- we've now got two Series II Tivos that are going unused (one is 40 hrs, one is 80). Anyone want one? Or both? They both work perfectly fine, we just ended up upgrading to an HD Tivo.

    MOHAI downtown?
I just want to make sure that what I think I read/saw must've been a hallucination. I distinctly recall that when the downtown branch of the Seattle Public Library was razed so that a new building could be erected that the contents was housed temporarily at 800 Pike St. in the WSTCC area. I also seem to recall that the library wanted to be out of there post haste because it was going to cost them a lot of money to stay in there past a certain time. I also seem to recall that this was to be the new home of MOHAI (Museum of History and Industry.) Well, the new library has been doing its thing now for several years and all I can see that's been in the space at 800 Pike is the exhibit "Bodies" for a time (now the return is further west on Pike St.) What's going into the 800 Pike space? And most of all was MOHAI ever going to go there or did I read/hear wrong?

    Public New Year's festivities?
Okay so this is only the second time I've been in Vancouver and not elsewhere for New Years although I've lived here over 3 years...

Back in Toronto there is always a big outdoor New Year's celebration at Nathan Phillips Square on New Year's Eve with a countdown. Does anything like that happen in Vancouver?

Looking to Buy : Used Laptop
Hey there Vancouver! I'm looking for a new-to-me laptop/netbook/lapnet/whatever, and I thought I'd give the ol' Vancouver LJ a try.

    Here's what I am looking for :

    1. It has to work (duh)
    2. It has to have a WORKING BATTERY, which holds at least two to three hours of medium-usage charge.
    3. It has to have, or be able to have by just adding a PCMCIA card or whatnot, full WiFi capability.
    4. It has to be able to run Firefox, with full Flash, Ajax, et all support. A modern web browser, in other words.
    5. It has to have some basic local storage, although because I plan to use it primarily for writing and web browsing, it doesn't need much.
    6. It has to weight less than 20 pounds and not set my lap on fire while using it.
    7. A full-sized or nearly full-sized keyboard is a huge plus. I'm not just a writer, I'm a writer with big fingers.
    8. A good sized display is also a plus. I'm a writer with big fingers and thick glasses.
    9. Delvery out to Richmond is also good, as I am a writer with big fingers, thick glasses, and mobility issues.

So to sum up, I am looking for a Wifi-capable laptop that works.

If you've got what I am looking for and are willing to part ways with it in exchange for sweet, sweet cash, reply in this thread. We can talk.

Got a brand new gizmo for Xmas and now the old one seems pathetic and lame? Turn that old wreck into cold, hard cash!

    Thank you for your time!

What is the best art supply store, in terms of selection & price? I'm specifically looking for good acrylic paints that aren't too expensive. I've been to Opus downtown, but I found their selection a little narrow, and the price seemed kind of steep. Any liquidation-warehouse type art stores around??

Pullman to Seattle For infected mushroom /Hostel or Floor to sleep on?
Hi, Is anyone you know driving from pullman to seattle for the Infected show on Jan 19th?

OR Does anyone have some floor space to sleep on Jan 19th? My friends and I are Cougs and are looking for rides and sleeping quarters.

    Edit:
I have a ride. My group of friends is larger then our car space and sleeping arrangements. and I will delete stupid comments. The point of this was help not snarky comments...

    Resolution Run
Want to do something really crazy to kick off the new year? Check out the 2010 Resolution Run 5k with optional Polar Bear Dive: http://promotionevents.com/ResoRun/09home.htm
When you register you choose if you want to run/walk the normal 5k, or the "Trip-n-Drip" Polar Bear version that goes through the water right at the end of the 5k. The event includes a free dash for the kids (not in the water!). You can also do the Polar Bear Dive as a two person team. Both of your times are added up and prizes are awarded for each category (male-male, female-female, male-female).

After the race there is a post-race celebration that includes free chili, hot chocolate, and other tasty treats. There will be fire pits and gender-specific changing areas for those who got wet. There is also a beer garden for those of age.

The cost is $30 if you preregister (you have until 7pm on New Year's Eve) and it's $35 on the morning of the event (get there extra early if you want to sign up day of).

Check it out and tell your friends :)

One thing I am thinking about is a magic wand.

it would be a Seattle Magic Wand, so if you tried to use it in some other city it would just be a stick.

But if you used it in Seattle, POOF, Magic Wand.

of course you can do things with it that you would do with a normal stick, like poke hamsters.

but it can also do some things a normal stick can't do, like turn a pile of old leaves into hot steaming nachos.

i'm not sure what type of wood to use. also the name of the product eludes me, as does how to make it have magic.

    Parking in/around Belltown
My boyfriend's driving to Seattle to visit and will stay at a hostel in Belltown for a few days. What's the best thing to do with his car? Is there un-metered parking in the area where he can leave it while we're out during the day, or will he just have to pay a meter/lot for two full days of parking? Ideas?!

    Thanks.

Computer Ailments and Places of Repair
    Hello,

For the past couple of days, I have been grappling with the blue screen of death (BSoD) to the tune of Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

After much fretting, AVG 9.0 purchasing, researching, advice getting from friends, I have pretty much ruled out virus and think it is a hardware issue. Thing is, I know nothing about hardware.

So, my question to you is: If you lived in the Capitol Hill area and traveled by Metro, where would you take your computer to be repaired (that didn't charge two arms and three legs and didn't keep your computer for three months or more?)?

    Thank you in advance!

    Blanket Donations?
I am one of the (un)fortunates that received a Snuggie for Christmas. Well, my husband got one, too... so I guess he's (un)fortunate as well. It is not something that we will ever wear or use. Rather than it go to waste, I'd like to give them to someone who could use a warm blanket. We also received two smaller throw blankets that need to find a home.

I Googled, but didn't come up with something current. Do you know of any charities/shelters that need blankets?

Are there any art secondary schools in Vancouver?
So I've been searching in and out for about a week now to transfer to a new school, like the Rosedale Heights School of the Arts or Langely Fine Arts School.... I've heard of Athena at Windermere but that's a little far and I'm looking into something that covers actual ART classes. Has anyone here graduated from one?

Thanks for all the comments on my sushi post by the way! I seriously don't know which one to pick @@
